CURRENT OBSESSIONS

Happy belated New Year! So, I’ve been a little busy/distracted, but I’m hoping going forward I can be better about sharing my “Current Obsessions” when they’re actually current. With that said, I’m currently feeling the blues (as we are in the middle of winter after all), and they also happen to be some of my favorite hues, particularly ultramarine, cobalt, and Yves Klein blue. Stay warm even if you’re feeling blue too!

I just received my August 2024 issue of Vogue, and one story really stuck out. “Easy Pieces”, styled by Camilla Nickerson, and lensed by Mikael Jansson is all about texture, volume, color, and a bold take on classic silhouettes. With the August issue being the first of the year to show pieces from the fall season (the best!), I thought I’d share some of my favorite photos from the editorial, give a break down of the looks as seen on the runways, and expand upon the theme with some other fall 2024 collections and looks I love. Also, I’m obsessed with this color palette of pink, red, off-white, and black!

Is it really already nearing the middle of July?! Well, I better share a little bit of what’s inspiring me for peak summer before the season is over! This is actually one of my favorite times of the year in fashion and home, because shops are starting to transition from summer to fall. That means that some of my favorite things from summer, like seashells and coral, ikat and block prints, raffia and sisal, are getting a moody touch of the autumn season that’s ahead of us. Here’s some of what’s inspiring me during these hot months, with my mind drifting more and more towards fall with each degree the temperature rises.

Happy (late) New Year! I’m overdue sharing my favorite things from the current and upcoming seasons in fashion, as well as what I’m loving in general for spring so far. Things are starting to bloom, but official spring can’t get here fast enough. Until then, let this inspire its quick return!

Hello December! Thanksgiving is behind us, and the winter holidays are on their way, whether you’re ready for them or not. Hanukkah starts December 7th, and of course Christmas is the 25th. With all the celebrations fast approaching, I thought I’d share what’s inspiring me this season. You’ll see I have a very obvious color palette. I hope that whatever you do this year, big or small, that it brings you joy. See you in the new year!

Well, my favorite season has arrived…fall! There’s so much to love every autumn, from the fashion (it’s sweater weather after all), to the holidays to come. It’s hard to narrow down my favorite things about the season, so I’ll just share a snippet of what I’m currently thinking about, including some of my favorite fashion looks from the fall 2023 runways. Happy fall!!

What’s that saying? Everything’s coming up roses?? Well, you could say that’s what I’ve had on my mind lately, especially with the roses fully in bloom everywhere I look! That’s gotten me thinking about all the roses I love, in all their forms: from art to fashion to the real thing. Here’s just a little bit of what’s been blooming in my mind.

BRINGING FALL HOME

9.26.22

Happy first full week of autumn! As much as I’m sad to see the sunshine go away, I have to say, fall is my favorite season. Just because summer is (officially) over, doesn’t mean you have to jump full throttle into the next season. Here are a few ways to lightly transition from summer to fall, without covering your entire home in pumpkins. I’ve also thrown in a couple fashion ideas to help ease yourself in wardrobe wise too!

Layering part one: Adding an extra pillow here, a throw there, and even layering a smaller wool rug on top of a big sisal rug you had out all summer are super quick and easy ways to say hello to fall. Interior by Jeffrey Bilhuber

Dressing the table: Add a tablecloth or a runner to a bare summer table, even if you’re not dining at it. Bowls of stone fruit, and a simple arrangement of market dahlias or chrysanthemums take it further up a notch. Gingham ‘Cafe’ linens from Heather Taylor Home

Layering part two: Don’t just layer your home, but think about layers for yourself. It might not be coat or sweater weather yet, depending where you live, but I can say that where I live the temp definitely drops from day to night, so you have to be prepared. A light quilted jacket or cardigan is a great place to start. Full look from J.Crew

Fall textures: Just like you start wearing warm and cozy textures, your home can too. Sweater-like throws, and pillows warm up your space, literally! ‘Cozy Sweater Knit’ blanket and pillows from Pottery Barn

Moody hues: A black painted piece of furniture, deep toned flowers in dark ceramics, and iron or rusty metal accessories are a few more simple ways to cozy up your space. Room via Martha Stewart Living

Transitional accessories: No need to put away your mini skirts and short dresses, ever actually. One way to make them fall ready is with accessories like ankle boots. ‘Stevie’ ankle boots from J.Crew

Seasonal blooms: An arrangement added to the coffee or dining table is essential year-round, but it’s all about the flowers you choose. Dahlias are a perfect summer to fall flower, as well as hydrangeas. The latter is fading where I am, but is just as pretty slightly dried. Flowers by Rana Flora

Layering part three: Don’t forget the bed! No need to swap your linen sheets for flannel yet, but think about tossing on an extra blanket or lightweight quilt. Bedding by Jake Arnold for Parachute

The finishing touch: Just like pillows, and decorative accessories finish a room, jewelry and other fashion accessories finish your look. I love this layered jewelry look with the addition of a silk scarf by Lizzie Fortunato. Also, that ‘Prairie’ necklace in wood is everything!

Good lighting: With the days getting shorter, and the weather soon to change (9 months of rain where I am), lighting is so important to keep your mood up, and warm up your home. Might as well be pretty too! Chunky wood or pottery table lamps, or unlacquered brass and bronze floor lamps should be dotted throughout a space. Never rely on overhead lighting, regardless of the season. ‘Abigail’ ceramic lamp in “unglazed toast” from Rejuvenation

CURRENT OBSESSIONS

With a little more than a month before fall begins (my favorite season), my mind has definitely begun to wander that direction, while still trying to soak in the last of the summer sun. Pre-fall fashion collections are in stores now, and there are always the tried and true things to expect, mixed with fun surprises. One element I look forward to in some way, is the animal print. Whether it’s the classic leopard, or a bold take on zebra, animal prints are a must in your wardrobe, and can be brought home too in big and small ways. Here are some of my favorite pre-fall 2022 looks mixed in with much-loved interiors.

CURRENT OBSESSIONS

I use the term “Current Obsessions” loosely, because for the most part what I post here has been a longtime obsession. I might just be thinking about it again, or with a fresh perspective, and additional components. That’s the case with what I’m sharing today. This is both a color crush situation, and me thinking about what I would call my dream kitchen and bathroom. If you’re a designer, or just a creative in general, you can probably attest to how a “dream” anything can and will change. Well, for now I’ll call this my dream, along with some other obsessions. Enjoy!

Although it’s not exactly a brand new thought, I again have Paris on my mind, more specifically my dream pied-à-terre in the heart of The City of Light.
